Everyone Helps, Everyone Wins: Reasons Why Recycling of Mobile Phones Should Be Made Compulsory

It seems like the reasons to recycle would be obvious and influential enough that everyone would be inspired to do the little things to make the world a better place, but whether through indifference or ignorance, people still ignore even the slightest of opportunities to improve the environment; not only for those around them and future generations, but for themselves.

The reasons to sell my mobile are numerous and serious, yet many people still think nothing of throwing their phones away like any other garbage. Maybe the new reason to recycle mobiles should be: because it’s mandatory. If people won’t make the choice to do something so simple as recycling their phone, than perhaps the choice needs to be made for them.

One big reason to sell mobile phone devices is that it will save the environment from further pollution. Over 4 billion mobile phones are manufactured per year. Every time these new models are released, people buy the new and discard the still fully functional old mobiles creating waste out of useful products. Reducing this waste and pollution in the environment would give hope that we can really make a meaningful difference and turn things around.

Other reasons to recycle mobile phones lie in the phones themselves. The materials that are used in manufacturing mobiles namely lead, platinum, cadmium, and the like are harmful materials that can cause great damage to the environment and our bodies themselves if these materials are not properly packaged and left exposed. Not only are these materials harmful if discarded and unused, but they are actually still useable when they are recycled. Even a mobile that is no longer in working condition can be stripped for parts and melted down for materials. Waste is unnecessary and so incredibly detrimental that the reasons to recycle mobile phones are virtually infinite.

Only a quarter of the world’s total population even has mobile phones. This means that those old model mobiles could be donated to less fortunate areas where they will be appreciated and used. It’s the perfect alternative to poisonous garbage. If the phone is still working, it will be of great help to the people in third world countries so that they may be able to communicate as fast as in developing countries. Not only will they be drawn closer but this could contribute to the development of poorer countries.

There is so much good that comes from alternative methods of mobile phone disposal. Not only do you have the opportunity to help the less fortunate, but you are also helping yourself and the world around you. Contrast this with the pure negativity that comes from absently discarding your mobile. It kills the environment and lessens your own quality of life and that of future generations. It’s a thoughtless, careless act that should be made illegal. It really is that serious and so easy to avoid. When it’s so easy to make the right choice and that choice is so obvious, it just seems like there should be no other choice available.
